I am the everlasting ghost
forever tethered to haunt
from within the crowded walls of
your chain restaurant where
I was taken out to dinner for my
last birthday on Earth and
choked on a fish taco full of
hot oil and bones where
you saved face by
comping my family’s check
that night and
sending them generous coupons
every week for the rest of
their lives.
