In the morning the front door was unlatched and swung open. Your rough boots scratched on the welcome mat and the china plates quaked in the cabinet.

I heard the door closing. I heard the wood splintering.

 

 

 

Anna Geiger is a poet and fiction writer. She attends the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco, where she majors in creative writing. Her poetry has been published in several literary journals, and her novel The Ones W​ho Lived is featured in two British newspapers. She is in the process of having the novel published.
